Can I create my own certificate of completion?

Recently I completed a certificate course from cosmopolitan university. I am unwilling to pay them $50 to have something that says "yay you did it". My question is: can I just google and print my own certificate course and fill in the blanks? Is that illegal or not legit? I know that's sort of like buying your own trophy but I just can't afford to buy their certificate of completion.
