Does Chiron have a dark side in Percy Jackson?

Chrion seems to be a little too good to be perfect, he tries to protect Percy but he doesn't seem to mind if anyone else gets hurt along the way. In book 2 he made Annabeth swear on Styx that she will protect him so if she didn't do her job right, she would have died. In book 3 he was acting strange to Percy and trying to make him scared by telling Percy is time will come. Book 4 he wanted Percy near him but he didn't help that poor boy who died (Dionysus' son) and in book 5 it seemed to me that he didn't care much for Luke, even though Luke had made a mistake. Then in book 6 Chiron was down right cold to Jason. Is this Chiron's dark side?
